U.S. Bellows custom-designed pressure balanced tee expansion joints for a chemical plant in Texas. The units are 352″ overall length, 81″ diameter and 90″ centerline to the bevel-end of the tee. All assemblies were completely fabricated from 304 stainless steel. They are designed for an operating temperature of 392°F at 15 psig, with 6″ of axial compression and 1.25″ of lateral deflection. The expansion joints were 100% dye penetrate tested and air soap and bubble tested prior to shipment.

The bellows are fabricated from 304 stainless steel with carbon steel tie rods and flange plates. They are designed for a 725°F at 14.22 psig, with a spring rate of 422 lb./in. and 1.5″ of axial compression. The expansion joints were 100% dye-penetrant examined and air leak tested prior to shipment.

They are designed for an operating temperature 200° at 55 psig, with 7/8″ of axial compression and .07″ of lateral movement. All units were 100% dye-penetrant, PMI, X-Ray, and hydro-tested prior to shipment.

It is 18″ diameter with a face of weld-end to centerline of elbow length of 83- 3/8″. The body of the assembly, the pipe, covers and tie-rods were fabricated from 304L stainless steel, the bellows and liners from 321 stainless. This unit was designed for 1/2″ compression and 4-1/8″ lateral movement with an operating temperature of 600°F at 125 psig. The assembly was dye penetrant tested and hydro-tested at 190 psig prior to shipment.

U.S. Bellows refurbished a 54″ dia. custom crossover expansion joint for a power plant in Kansas. The flow end and balancing end bellows were replaced. The pressure balanced expansion joint was designed for 1″ axial movement at 700°F and 150 psig. The bellows longitudinal weld seams were 100% x-rayed and the assembly was hydro-tested at 180 psig prior to shipment. The refurbishment was completed in three weeks to meet the customer’s outage requirements.

These expansion joint components were fabricated for a pressure balanced expansion joint in a nuclear power facility in Pennsylvania. They are 46″ square, fabricated from carbon steel duct with Inconel 625 bellows, and 321 stainless steel liner. The design conditions were +/- 0.875″ axial compression, 1,346 lb./in. lateral spring rate and 15 psig at 250°F. All welds were 100% dye penetrant examined and a pneumatic pressure test at 15 psig was conducted prior to shipping.

With an overall length of 70, these expansion joints consist of four 8 diameter bellows with 3 plies of Inco 625 Gr1 material, an 8 diameter Inco 800 HT elbow, four 74 A193 B8 tie rods, and four 2 thick A240 tp304H rings. To ensure quality, 100% x-ray and 100% dye-penetran tests were performed on the bellows. A pneumatic test at 550 PSIG was conducted on the entire assembly prior to shipping

The expansion joint is designed for 30 psig at 200°F and full vacuum. All materials in the “wetted surface” are TP-316/316L stainless steel. Design movements are 3-inch axial compression and 5 ¾ -inch lateral offset. The assembly is approximately 24-feet long and 14,150 lbs.
