This air duct fabric expansion joint has a unique design that allows for lateral movement of 2″ in any direction. It will be used in an air duct system as a transition piece between the air blower and the air duct. This expansion joint is fabricated with Alpha 827 fabric cloth and A36 carbon steel flanges and has a design temperature of 300&def;F at .1 PSIG. The top flange measures 68-5/8″ L x 57-5/8″ W, and the bottom flange measures 53-5/8″ L x 64-5/8″ W.

This universal hinged expansion joint includes elbows on both ends for an overall length of 125 5/8″. It is designed with Inconel® 625 bellows, a 304 stainless steel liner, and carbon steel 150 lb. flanges. The hinges allow for up to 5° of angular movement. The longitudinal weld seams were 100% dye-penetrant examined prior to being formed. The expansion joint was hydro-tested at 188 PSIG.

These rectangular metal bellows are fabricated entirely from ASTM A-240 type 304 stainless steel. The larger bellows measures 240″ x 80″. The smaller bellows measures 157″ x 65″. The design conditions were 1 PSIG at 1,000°F. Both metal bellows are designed with three convolutions with round corners. The metal bellows welds were 100% dye-penetrant examined and soap and air tested prior to shipment. These bellows are designed to be installed at the ductwork connection to a large steam boiler.

U.S. Bellows, Inc. received this single expansion joint in the morning, refurbished it, and shipped it to the customer the very same day. The expansion joint bellows, liner, and cover were replaced. The carbon steel parts were sand blasted, cleaned and painted. The expansion joint was 4″ I.D. x 16 3/4″ face-to-face. The design conditions of the expansion joint were 345 PSI at 500°F. The expansion joint was 100% dye-penetrant examined and hydro-tested to 518 PSIG prior to being shipped back to a local area refinery.

The diameter ranges from 4″ to 10″ and the overall length ranges from 21″ to 42″. The expansion joint assemblies were fabricated with 304 stainless steel bellows and 300 lb. carbon steel flanges. The design conditions were 200 PSIG at 500°F. Externally pressurized joints are unique in that they can absorb large amounts of axial travel.
They also incorporate internal guide rings that serve as limit stops in case of anchor failure. The expansion joints were 100% dye-penetrant examined and hydro-tested prior to shipment.

The three-layer fabric belt consists of an inner layer of silica cloth, a middle layer of mineral wool, and an outer layer of PTFE/coated fiberglass. The dye-penetrant examination was performed on all welds of the expansion joint’s frame prior to shipping.

The design conditions were 3 PSIG at 845°F. The expansion joints are designed for a lateral movement of 1/2″ and an angular rotation of 1.5°. Stainless steel covers were included to protect the fabric expansion element from possible outside damage.

36" Tied Universal Expansion Joint for a Petrochemical Plant

U.S. Bellows Inc. designed and fabricated a 36″ tied universal expansion joint for a petrochemical plant in Kuwait. The expansion joint measures 36″ in diameter x 318″ from center of elbow to face of flange. It is fabricated from 316H stainless steel with Iconel® 800 bellows. The design pressure of the expansion joint is 65 PSIG, and the design temperature is 1076°F. It is designed for axial compression within the tie rods and lateral movement of 3.02″. Hydro-testing was performed at 98 PSIG to assure the integrity of the tie rods and also to assure quality. The pictures show the expansion joint leaving the shop on its way to the customer. The stainless steel flange faces are protected with 3/4″ plywood during delivery.

U.S. Bellows, Inc. Designed and Fabricated a 30" Spent Catalyst Standpipe Metallic Expansion Joint with Pentographic Linkage

U.S. Bellows, Inc. fabricated this 30″ spent standpipe catalyst metallic expansion joint for a refinery in Montana. The overall installed length of the expansion joint is 89″. The design pressure was 19 PSIG and the design temperature was 1050°F. The expansion joint is fabricated entirely from 321 stainless steel, except for the carbon steel flanges to match the existing nozzle material and drilling. The assembly is lined with abrasion-resistant refractory which prevents erosion of the 321 stainless steel piping. The pantographic linkage, shown in the photo, is designed to distribute the axial compression between the two bellows and support the weight of the center pipe between the bellows.

This expansion joint was pneumatically tested to 55 PSIG. Positive Material Identification was performed on all alloy materials. All of the longitudinal welds were 100% x-ray tested

U.S. Bellows, Inc. designed and fabricated single tied expansion joints for a pipeline in Alaska. The 12″ diameter expansion joints had an overall length of 12″ and the 24″ diameter expansion joint had an overall length of 14-1/2″.

The expansion joint assemblies are fabricated entirely from stainless steel. The design pressure of the expansion joints was 50 PSIG. They are designed with tie rods that do not permit axial movement, but allow for lateral movement up to 1/2″. The expansion joints will be used on a process line that contains exhaust gas and hydrocarbon vapor at a low concentration. It will connect an oil tank with a vapor control system. The expansion joints were 100% dye-penetrant tested and hydro-tested to ensure quality control.

U.S. Bellows, Inc. refurbished a rectangular metal expansion joint on an emergency basis for a local chemical plant. Upon arrival, the expansion joint was acid washed and dye-penetrant examined for any cracks in the metal. The expansion joint bellows were then repaired, retested and sent back to the customer in a matter of two days. The expansion joint measures 21″ x 26″ x 36-3/8″. The bellows are fabricated from Inconel® 625 LCF material. The rest of the assembly is fabricated from Inconel® 600 material. The design temperature is 660°F and the design pressure is 20 PSIG. The expansion joint was soap-air bubble tested and dye-penetrant examined before being returned.

U.S. Bellows, Inc. designed and fabricated a 32″ universal expansion joint and 3″ single expansion joints to be utilized in a new epoxy resin plant in Saudi Arabia. The expansion joints are fabricated with stainless steel bellows and carbon and stainless steel flanges. The 32″ expansion joint has a design temperature of 482°F with a design pressure of 15 PSIG. The 3″ single expansion joints have a design temperature of 400°F with a design pressure of 370 PSIG.

The flanges on the 32″ universal expansion joint were custom fabricated to the customer’s special design requirements. One end of the 32″ expansion joint has a stainless steel custom machined flange with a grooved facing. The other end has a carbon steel lap joint flange. Each expansion joint was 100% dye-penetrant tested as well as hydro-tested.
